Here's a truth that took me years to learn the hard way: a company doesn't fail because people stop working hard. It fails because everyone keeps working hard in different directions, with no one steering. The exact same thing happens to a life — and it's far more common, and far more hidden, than anyone admits.
A real strategy isn't a vision board. It's a decision about what matters most, held firmly enough that it quietly filters every other choice you make. Once you have that, the rest gets easier. Without it, you can work yourself to exhaustion and still end up nowhere you actually wanted to be.
CEO Decision
Here's a question worth asking only because it's the one serious CEOs ask themselves in private, never in public:
"If I gave myself an honest performance review this year, would the verdict be 'meeting expectations' — or 'building something I'm genuinely proud of'?"
Don't answer it from your job title. Answer it from the life behind the job title — the relationships, the health, the money, the character. The parts that never show up on a CV but quietly make up the entire enterprise you're running.
Sit with that one. Most people never do.

No overhaul. No five-year plan. Just one move, the kind a sharp CEO makes in their first week running anything new — take honest stock before changing a thing.
Block 30 minutes this week and write a one-page "Annual Report" on your life.
Six short sections, one per department:
Strategy — Where is my life actually headed right now?
Relationships — Who's really on my team, and is it the right team?
Finance — Is my money serving my mission, or just disappearing?
Operations — Do my daily habits build the life I want, or quietly work against it?
Leadership — Would the people closest to me say I'm becoming someone better?
Legacy — If this year were a chapter, what would it be remembered for?
You don't need polished answers. You need an honest first draft. Every strategy worth having starts with someone willing to look clearly at where things actually stand — most people just never do it for themselves.
